Summary: Eileen's children have been found dead, and Lieutenant Brann is the officer investigating the murders. Convinced that Eileen herself is the killer, Brann sets out to prove it. His theory is that she buckled under the daily pressures of her seedy existence. But Brann has a problem to contend with; though horrified by Eileen's heartless crimes, he still finds himself sexually attracted to her. She suffers similar emotional confusion. Thus, the stage is set for a series of erotically charged encounters -- with the tension between the two compounded by both summer heat and the lingering shadow of unspeakable violence.
