Summary: THE WAITER is an absurdist, postmodern black comedy that comes off like a Dutch version of BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION. When sad-sack restaurant waiter Edgar (Alex van Warmerdam, who also writes and directs) tires of his abusive customers, invalid wife, and demanding mistress, he knocks on the door of the screenwriter (Mark Rietman) who has created his character and asks for a better life.
