Summary: A poor man's MADAME BOVARY, the film stars Bette Davis as Rosa Moline, the intensely bored and dissatisfied wife of a small-town doctor (Joseph Cotten). Seeking to cure her ennui, she begins an affair with wealthy industrialist Neil Latimer (David Brian), who is vacationing at a cabin near her home. When Latimer returns to Chicago, Rose presses her husband's patients to pay their bills, using the money to finance a trip to visit the businessman. Latimer does his best to elude the persistent Rosa before admitting that their fling was merely a distraction, informing her of his engagement to a socialite.
